Baseball is back for the Miami Marlins

Spring Training is now on the way for the Miami Marlins. Just two weeks ago, the commissioner of baseball Rob Manfred was discussing the fact that the baseball lockout would cancel games to start the season, but now here we are, ready to start spring training.

There’s a lot of hope and excitement for the Marlins this season, even though last year they struggled with a 67 and 95 record but that isn’t the past. Don Mattingly said, “now it’s time to look to the future, we have to move forward now with this ballclub”.

But to move forward without Derek Jeter is a little different. Jeter is not here for the first time in five years after stepping down from the team, he said it was because his vision was different than when he arrived, we don’t know if that vision maybe was about spending money or not being able to spend money.

Marlins principal owner Bruce Sherman was asked directly about Jeter’s situation he said “I have nothing but respect for Jeter, but nothing has changed for this team we expect to win, and we will spend to do so. We will be trading potentially players, more importantly, we will be trying to sign free agents we have money, and we will spend it how we spend it is up to Kim”

Kim Ng the general manager for the Marlins spoke saying she understands his team needs another bat, they need to make some improvements and they look to do it from now to the start of the season.

I find this very hard to believe since we have less than a month till the start of the season.  Spring games at Jupiter will begin on Friday so it is kind of a quick Sprint to the start of the season after this lockout, but it is great to see baseball back.  Will the Marlins have a great Year? Will see.

Is Derek Jeter the right person to lead the Marlins?

Derek Jeter came to the Miami Marlins in 2017, as the savior, the man who would change the history of this scandal-sunken franchise, who always had the same ending every year, no postseason. Why would Jeter be the savior? What is the trajectory of him to put so much faith in a man? Let’s see.

A five-time World Series champion, Jeter is known as one of the greatest New York Yankees in their history, a Hall of Famer, and a baseball icon. Known for his poise, Jeter is synonymous with being a professional. If we already talked about his professionalism, his resume, it is obvious that he is a person who knows about Baseball, why do many still wonder if Jeter can be trusted? What was the problem? I will explain

The Miami Marlins in their entire history have won two World Series, first time in 1997 and then in 2003, well how many times have they been in the playoffs? Three times in 1997, 2003, and after a peculiar set of circumstances in 2020. Three times to the postseason in 28 years! They have never won a division title, they are always among the worst in attendance at games, in other words, the Miami Marlins have been relevant 3 times in 28 years of existence.

Until Jeter arrives in 2017, what’s happened since then? Since the 2018-season, the Marlins have had a winning percentage of 418%, in other words, they have won less than half of their games. They’ve made the postseason, only once in 2022, although this must have an asterisk, a season that was shortened due to Covid-19, if it had become a full season, they most likely would not have made it to the postseason. Since 2018, the Marlins are last in attendance at their games, with an average of 9,000 attendees per game, last in the majors.

So, in 4 years, how has the team improved? Since the rebuild began in 2018, the Marlins have put their emphasis on producing talent, which is why their farm is No. 3 in talent in the majors. From then on, in my opinion, it has not improved at all. Should we keep waiting for our savior? I say give him more time.
